Vanitas
The Vanitas motif emerges in the Renaissance era and plays a prominent role until Barock sets in.
In these pictures the artist would relate to the antagonisms between middelage structures and new
thinking arising from the Enlightenment's philosophers.
In my paintings I want to deal with the discrepancy in our modern societies between the huge
possibilities we as humans have on this wonderful planet, with all the human and technological development
on one hand, and the destructive side of our endeavours on the other hand. I do not have a certain message here,
but I am merely observing and analysing what happens around myself and inside me.
I used to live in deep disrespect for life once not having the faintest idea of how wonderful life is and which
wonders it does work. Today I am aware of that and I get up every morning filled with gratefulness and with
the certainty that it might well be the last one, too.
